The ongoing violence in Myanmar is very alarming and it is the biggest problem for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN, both strategically and humanitarianly, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Friday.
“Terrorist attacks and instability that occurred after the military coup in Myanmar are still ongoing. We are very concerned about this situation. This is happening within ASEAN. The Burma problem is ASEAN’s biggest strategic humanitarian problem in these two years,” Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said.
Continuing to say – Prime Minister Annawa Raheem also said that Malaysia urges Myanmar to immediately implement the 5 ASEAN Common Agreements in order to bring stability and peace to the country.
In addition, Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, who is attending the United Nations General Assembly in New York, met with ICRC President Mirjana Spojaric on Friday to discuss the Myanmar issue.
Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Radno Masudi said that he will continue to try to implement the 5 ASEAN Common Agreements in order to solve Myanmar’s problems.
